Autism Beauty was founded in March 2022 by Danisha Braxton who was inspired by her daughter Jada Braxton. In January 2022, Jada made history by winning Miss Photogenic in her high school pageant. This history-making moment drew local and national attention due to Jada being the first young woman with autism to win this title in the Miss Saraland Pageant. So many people contacted Danisha inquiring about how to support the autism community. After researching the local area, Danisha could not find an active autism organization and decided to start her own. With Danisha as the Executive Director and Jada as the Face and Co-Vice President, Autism Beauty was created to bring awareness to autism and stress the importance of acceptance and inclusion.
Autism Beauty's mission is to raise awareness about autism and the importance of acceptance and inclusion, advocate for self-care among caregivers, and educate others that autism has no look.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can make life challenging for those affected by it. It's caused by differences in the brain and affects 1 in 36 children. Boys are four times more likely to have ASD than girls. People with ASD may experience difficulties in communication, learning, and interacting with others. It's important to remember that they may need extra support and understanding. Caregiver burnout is a common phenomenon that can leave one feeling physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted. Taking care of someone else can be overwhelming, and it's okay to seek help. If you're a caregiver, know that you're not alone, and over 60% of caregivers experience burnout symptoms.
Autism Beauty is a movement that seeks to shed light on autism, emphasizing the importance of understanding and acceptance. By raising awareness about autism, the initiative aims to foster a more inclusive society where individuals with autism are embraced for who they are. Additionally, Autism Beauty advocates for self-care for caregivers, recognizing the demanding nature of their role and encouraging them to prioritize their well-being.
One of the key messages of Autism Beauty is that autism does not have a specific appearance. This challenges stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding autism, highlighting the diversity of individuals on the spectrum. Through education and advocacy, Autism Beauty strives to create a more compassionate and supportive environment for individuals with autism and their families. By promoting acceptance and understanding, the movement aims to celebrate the unique beauty and value that each person, regardless of their neurodiversity, brings to the world.
Autism Beauty is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your support and contributions will enable us to assist families of individuals on the autism spectrum. Thank you in advance!
